Here are some suggestions about what to do near the Brown Bear and Wildlife Watching hide.
Hiking trails near the hide:
- Seljamäe study trail (5,5 km) – A beautiful hiking trails that goes through a pine forest and a traditional mire. Distance from the bear hide – 11 km.
- Tudu hiking trail and forest hut – A short hiking trail which leads to a forest hut and campfire site next to Tudu lake. The boardwalk to the lake and hut is a bit worn out, but reachable and the former hunters lodge still offers a good place to overnight. The usage of the hut is free of charge and opened. Distance from the bear hide – 11,5 km.
- Selisoo hiking trail (4 km) – A one-way hiking trail which introduces different bog types. The hiking trail has also 2 campfire sites and a small shelter for hikers. Distance from the bear hide –
If you are coming from Tartu, on the way you could make a stop and stretch your legs at:
- Männikjärve bog study trail (7,3 km) – A nice boardwalk trail in Männikjärve peat bog. The hiking trail also has a 7m tall observation tower that helps to get a great view of the bog situated in Endla Nature Reserve. Distance from the bear hide – 66 km. Distance from Tartu 75 km.
- Männikjärve hiking trail (2,2 km) – A short trail going through a coniferous forest to/in and around Männikjärve bog. Situated in Endla Nature Reserve. Distance from the bear hide – 66 km. Distance from Tartu 75 km.
If you are coming from Tallinn, on the way you could make a stop and stretch your legs at:
- Viitna study trail (2,5 or 7 km) – Quite close to the bigger highway. The study/hiking trail goes through a beautiful pine forest and around a lake. It’s possible to take the shorter trail and hike only around Pikkjärv (lake). Pikkjärv has also a special swimming area.
Places to grab something to eat near the hide:
- Jaama Trahter – A tavern in the nearby village called Tudu. Food is cheap and simple. Distance from the bear hide – 7,7 km.
